Adding more things into your life, especially home cooking and food prepping, may seem a bit much. By rethinking your schedule and evaluating your habits, and by planning ahead, you will discover you can create the time to focus on your health and wellbeing.

As a married woman with dual careers, a household to run (no maids, but I do have a gardener!), my life is very busy, too. This program is designed to help you discover which foods help fuel you and which may be causing inflammation or digestive issues. My clean eating, detox, or cleanse programs are all based on whole foods and are designed to provide your body with the spectrum of nutrients it needs. It is important to consult with your physician before beginning any health programs, making any dietary changes or adding new exercise regimens.

WHAT IF I'M PREGNANT OR NURSING?

If you are pregnant or nursing, please consult with your physician about changing your diet prior to beginning this or any other program. 

Eating clean, whole food provides vitamins, minerals and nutrients for the body. While this program does not include any detox-provoking supplements, it is nevertheless designed to support your body’s natural detoxification process at a higher level. 

Should your doctor approve your choice to do this program, the following modifications are suggested:

  • Take the pre-natal vitamin supplements prescribed by your doctor
  • Adjust your morning Lemon Elixir recipe to be water and lemon only
  • Add a least 4-6 ounces of animal protein or additional vegetarian protein at both lunch and dinner
  • Boost your morning smoothie or breakfast bowl with additional hemp powder, pea protein, or a high quality, 100% certified organic plant-based protein powder, such as Plant Fusion (available at Whole Foods or on Amazon.com).
  • Choose from the health snack options and recipes as needed
  • Be sure to drink lots of water and get plenty of rest
WILL I BE DRINKING ONLY JUICE OR SMOOTHIES?

No way! While smoothies are included in several places on the menu plan. There are also warm and cold breakfast options. Smoothies are a convenient, quick and nutritious way to ensure you provide your body with the fuel it needs for energy to break the fast of the night. Juice recipes may be included in your program too.

This is a clean eating, whole food program designed as an elimination diet to help you discover the foods that work for you and those that work against you, causing digestive issues, inflammation, weight gain, etc. Phase 2 is about giving your digestive system a rest and is vegan based. Animal protein has a long digestion process. You will get plenty of plant based protein. You’ll also be eating salads, soups, main dishes, snacks, and even desserts that are made from delicious and nutritious whole foods.

WILL I BE HUNGRY?

Be hungry? Not a chance…there are recipes for every meal of the day, plus snack food recipes.

This program is not about feeling deprived or like you’re starving. And, we are NOT calorie counting or dwelling on carbs. There are extra recipes so you can customize your menu and meet the tastes and flavors you prefer.

Every meal is delicious and has been created to nourish your body from the inside out. Hunger is a signal that the body needs fuel and nutrients. You’ll get plenty. 

Cravings on the other hand can mask themselves as hunger. Stick with the plan, have a glass of water, take a little walk, or maybe have one of the approved snack. You’re going to do great!

WILL THIS PROGRAM HELP ME IF I'M ALREADY GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE?

Cleansing isn’t simply about eliminating gluten or dairy products. Many things contribute to imbalance and toxicity. Our bodies are exposed to toxins on a daily basis -they’re all around us in the air we breathe, the food eat, the water and beverages we drink, the products we use on ourselves.

Detoxing is not a one time event. Periodic cleansing helps give the digestive system a rest so it can reset and rebalance. Refocusing on how food is nourishing, supporting and building your body is like putting pieces of the puzzle together. jigsaw piecesMany people discover a new level of health when they change up the foods they eat. Regardless of their level of health or how clean they eat, there are new things to be learned and new levels of health to attain.

CAN I EXERCISE OR WORK OUT?

If you already have an exercise regimen or are working out, that’s great! Please keep it up!

During this program, you’ll be eating protein and drinking plenty of liquids, but it’s important to remember that whenever you make changes to the way you eat, your body responds with change too. After a workout, be sure to eat a protein snack or drink a protein smoothie. Recipes are included in your program guide.

You may experience detox symptoms. It’s important to let your body rest and while there’s no need to stop exercising, you may want to slow your regimen down a little to allow your body to focus on the work it’s doing.

DO I NEED TO BUY SUPPLEMENTS OR VITAMINS?

Including probiotics as part of your daily regimen is highly recommendation to help restore gut balance that may have been compromised by alcohol, antibiotics and other medications, or illness.

If you are taking vitamins and minerals, especially if they are prescribed by your doctor, please continue taking them. 

Supplements, essential oils, or herbs may be included for information purposes only and are optional. 

WILL I FEEL WEAK WHILE DETOXING?

On the contrary! The vast majority of participants feel amazingly strong and are energized. 

However, it is important to note that in the beginning your body may go through a “healing phase” as it purges itself of toxins and lets go of cravings. You may experience one or more detox symptoms. They’re temporary. 

If you feel weak or light headed, be sure you are eating enough, including enough protein, not skipping meals, including snacks when you need them, and are allowing your body to get the rest you need. If you are going regularly to the gym and maintaining an aggressive workout schedule, you may want to consider temporarily lightening your workout regimen.

 

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Great question! Cleansing symptoms, like the benefits, vary from person to person. Most people experience the benefits of this program soon after they start: more energy, better sleep, more clarity. They may have light or no cleansing symptoms at all. Others may initially feel tired, fatigued, a little blocked up, even a little light-headed as their body begins eliminating toxins, they let go of cravings, and their body starts balancing out.

Each time you cleanse you  may experience new symptoms and realize even more benefits as your body detoxes at deeper and deeper levels. 

Common detox symptoms may include:

  • flu-like symptoms
  • fatigue
  • weakness
  • headache
  • constipation or diarrhea
  • disrupted sleep
  • moodiness
  • fogginess

Symptoms are temporary and usually diminish after a day or too. If you experience any symptoms that cause major discomfort, please be sure you are eating adequate amounts of food, not skipping meals (this will not help weight loss). Be sure you are getting enough sleep, retiring early, drinking enough water, and replacing electrolytes when working out.
